I spoke to several people this season about Cervinia and every one of them told me not to bother skiing there. I was surprised as what I'd read suggested it would be a good place for what I want from my ski trip - mileage, good selection of runs, and the bonus of Zermatt over the back. But I was informed its just the cheap way to visit Zermatt with much worse skiing.
Sounded a strange description bearing in mind WTSS give it a big thumbs up.

So are Mars bar's
As per above Cervinia is great for a certain type of skiing. If you are intermediate level and like long cruisy runs is perfect. If your an expert, hire a pair of GS skis for the week you will also have a great time. Hence it is perfect for mixed groups as long as people are willing to change their skiing to match the resort.
For offpiste and or steep skiing yes there are much much better places. For everything else cannot really be faulted, good food, sunny, decent vertical, guaranteed snow, reasonable priced, I had a great time there. Not a patch on ski terrain offered by Chamonix but that is every other resort in world. Would definitely go back and should be perfect location for a lot of people and groups.
Now come on Baldy where is your sense of humour -)

Hi
We had a lovely time in Sauze d'oulx over Christmas last year. Stayed at the Hotel Martin in Jouvenceaux and would go back any time.
You can ski the Milky Way which is a big area.
I think Italy is good value all round.
Good luck

I have been doing some investigation work into Italian skiing, Dolomites accommodation seems to base it pricing structure on per person not by the room so can work out expensive.
Maybe Valtournenche may be an option saves staying in Cervina !!!, Milky Way of which I have never really fancied and possible that is down to a touch of history poor snow record and the lager lout reputation of the 1980's ..... but there have been some positive reports from J2skiers so I can't write it off. Mmmmmm decisions, descisions 8)
