SnowLily wrote:I kind of get the impression after reading your reports that you like skiing something different every day and a bit of a challenge. I don't think you personally would get that in Soll/ Skiwet having already been to so many other resorts, may be wrong about that. Can't speak for any of the other places. We have got into a terrible rut of always going to same place/hotel. Mainly because of cost and because we always have such a great time and are scared we may not enjoy somewhere else as much. Mad I know! After this years disappointment am determined to go more than once and somewhere different.
Yes I guess you're right. I don't like feeling I'm skiing the same runs over and over which is why obergurgl isn't on the first list as I know its a limited area.
I'd also get very bored going to the same hotel and resort over and over, although we did visit mayrhofen 6 times in 12 years. I can see why people stick with something they feel suits them though.
Maybe I over analyse things and read too much rather than just take the plunge and go to some of these places. And I can honestly say there's only 1 place I have been to for a ski holiday that I would not want to go back to ever again. All of the others I'd revisit happily, in particular verbier where I've only skied a week with my daughter and would love to take mrs h. Even sauze I'd go back to but only after a big dump of fresh snow.

Dolomites: Awesome. Do it soon!
Bad Gastein: Yes please!
Ischgl: Must do it soon (before I'm the 'oldest swinger in town').
Solden: See Ischgl.
Cervinia: Possibly a way to ski Zermatt 'on the cheap'. Fraught with danger if the lifts aren't open, although I can think of plenty worse places to be 'stuck' for a week. :-)
Crans Montana: Must read up.
Val d'Isere: Depends on how much more it's gonna cost than Tignes. -)
Schladming: Yes please! shares the same space on my wishlist as Bad Gastein.

Why is Val d'Isere in one list and Tignes in the other one? I mean, they've got the same shared ski area, and when you're ski-ing you can't actually tell, from the type of run or quality of snow or anything, which area you're in.
The village of Val d'Isere is prettier than the Tignes villages (apart from Les Brevieres of course), but it's also generally more expensive.

But, as yet, I've never been to Chamonix, Zermatt, Verbier or the Portes du Soleil. I suppose Jackson Hole or Vail would have to be on the wish-list too. And the Dolomites.
I wouldn't bother with Obergurgl again - preferred Solden - and Whistler's mixed reputation for weather puts me off a little.
