GPS Ski Maps is very good and does not cost a lot on android but think the price jumps when you buy through apple store

Blimey Dave, you were years ahead of your time back in 2000. I think I still had a Nokia brick in those days.

Let us know how you get on with yours, Dave

Not for me, Andy, I never wear goggles.

I passed on the OP list to my smarty pants young son, who writes apps for a hobby. I have suggested writing about what he knows, but he has a good line in app quizzes.

Thanks for all your help, but I was looking at $5 apps, not $600 goggles. I did buy navionics and ski tracks. Let's see which one helps me out.

I bought Ski Tracks for 69p, recommended by an instructor.

It's pretty cool. All the stats, speed, distance, no. runs, no. lifts, elevation. Plus it shows a neat map of the runs you've done, which if like me and have no clue what runs are called or where they go, is very useful explaining where you've been to others ;)

+1 for ski tracks

GPS only and local data saving = no running cost.
Run by run breakdown in the 69p version - well worth it.
With data off I've had over 50% battery left at the end of the day (on an iphone!)

Not skiing specific but Photosynth is free and good for capturing the views!

Alpine replay looks like it could be good, might investigate.
