Hotel / Apartment in Chamonix

Thanks to some guys on here yesterday we are heading to Chamonix in Mid March. Can anyone recommend a good hotel or chalet that can cater for 6 guys (4 Nights). Also can anyone confirm the area we need to look at when staying there, want to be central, is it just Chamonix Town? Again thanks in advance for any information/help that is given.

you want to stay anywhere in Chamonix itself. Try Hotel l'Arve - nice enough hotel and pretty cheap. Really central and the ski bus stops about 30 seconds walk away. There isnt a pool or any spa facilities, apart from a sauna. There is a small bar but being right in the centre, you are ideally located for heading out and about.

Hope you have a great time, i'm sure you will. Its an amazing place, hoping to get back there soon myself.

Thanks for your reply, that hotel in fact may be perfect, only blokes going so we don't need the Ritz. Is catching a bus the norm in Chamonix, alaso how far is it from the hotel to the lifts.

yeah you do have to get the ski bus about to the different areas - that is the only downside to Chamonix. The pistes are in 4 different areas and you need to get the bus between them.

From the centre, the only gondola you can really walk to is Brevent. From there you can ski/board the Brevent and Flegere area. That will keep you amused for a whole day. ANother day it would be worth getting the bus to Le Tour - much wider, open runs with no tree runs or anything but great carving/off piste to be found. ANother day - you must go to Grand Montets - great area. You could also go to Les Houches (although i havent been there for about 5 years and cant really remember what its like) or Argentiere another day.

Les Houches is great - well worth a visit. And if you do go, go to Les Vieilles Luges for lunch - best mountain restaurant ever!

Not connected with them in any way, but when I have mates to visit in Chamonix I get them to stay in a Snostation apartment (www.snostation.com). Works well; nice and not too pricey, good for a group of lads.

Otherwise there's the hostels - cheap and cheerful - the Vagabond, Chamoniard Volant and the similarly named Ski Station all spring to mind.

Already booked now, don't want to investigate too munch in case it ends up being in the middle of knowhere. Took Tom's tip, snostation, lets hope it does the job. Cheers All
