Hi guys - myself and a friend are going to Avoriaz on the 8th of feb for 4 days and its our first time there... i want to pack as much in as possible... we are competent boarders who like some good park action and off piste if possible, any advice would be greatly appreciated for the best runs / areas!! + any restaurants that are good to eat in........ is Avoriaz big enough for 4 days or should we look at getting to Morzine as well? and any taxi / transfer bus company numbers that go to and from Geneva??

Thanks for your help!

I would be interested in this two as I was planning on 3 days in Morzine the weekend before you go, I am a boarder too!

That being said I need advice on how to finish work at 5.30pm in Hannover and get to Morzine overnight so I can ski on the Friday morning - hopefully avaoiding the 4 hour wait at Bern at 1am - 5am.

Was planning on a week there with all my old school buddies, but work has scuppered that plan :(

Went there in 2007, definately plenty of area to cover but don't recall much of a park though there were a few jumps and kickers on the plateau with a couple of drags to get you back up, though they may have more as the snow was bad that year.

Hi

I go to Morzine quite a lot and consequently ski (not board) in Avoriaz and the surrounding Portes du Soliel (sp?)

The last few times I have been there Sat - Tues so like you have wanted to cram in as much as possible. For me I am glad that I had a pass for the whole area. It is all really well linked and takes no time to get from Avoriaz - Morzine - Les Gets. A great tour. Depends what you want I suppose, if as a border you want to bum about for a few days Avoriaz might be your answer, however if you are like me and want to get the lift at 9am and tour about loads have lunch and finish at 4.30pm I would reccommend the whole area.

Skiing into switzerland is a great run and has a great restaurant at the bottom. Cant recall there being many good eateries in Avoriaz, but that is probably becasue staying in Morzine we are never there at food time. However, there is a bar opposite the top of the cable car that is pretty chilled and serves excellent beer/food/crepes

In short - get the whole area.....

I am off there on Saturday......3 days and counting

Hi there,

Avoriaz is a pretty big area by itself, with a decent snow park up above the village and a "playground" down through the trees towards Lindaret, which attracts lots of boarders, so I'd say you will have plenty to do just by getting the limited area Avoriaz pass. However, you are ideally placed there to make the most of the massive area either side of Avoriaz, either by dropping down into Morzine and heading over to Les Gets and the snow park on Mont Chery (which is pretty good too) or by heading over to Chatel or the Swiss resorts. If I was only going for 4 days and it was my only ski/board of the season, I'd invest in the Portes du Soleil pass, hang the expense and go for it! )

Just come back from Avoriaz two weeks ago. We only had the Avoriaz pass, however for an advanced skiier (which i am, but went last minute) I would recommend the full PDS pass.

Also with regards to restaurants everywhere we went in Avoriaz was very good if not a bit pricey most around 10 - 15 euros, however i know this is the norm in much of the alps now, thats probably my fault though for booking too many skiing holidays.

Anyway....I can highly recommend La Cabane for a meal in Avoriaz, it's near the shooters bar, probably one of the best meals i have had, I had duck which was priced at 23 euros, (the menu was all in French, even though the staff were rushed off their feet one girl made a big effort to come and explain the menu in english for us, almost every dish she mentioned was "special") anyway it was......amazing. Another friend who was once a chef had steak and he said it was probably the best steak he had ever had and others friends meals were also excellent. Anyway I can highly recommend La Cabane!

Have a Good One!
