Well, after much pondering and keeping an eye on weather and conditions for skiing in the highlands, I finally made the choice last night to make a trip to the Cairngorm mountains today (Monday 28th December)... and what a decision it was!!

The weather - beautiful! Clear blue skies, sun shining, lovely fresh snow from the night before.. What's so bad about that?

Pretty lucky to be honest, however the roads on the way up were shocking! Left the house at 5 am this morning.. Rarely managed to reach 50MPH on the A9 due to the condition of the roads, thick snow lying all over it, and it reached minus 18 at parts too! But the closer we got to the Cairngorms, the better the weather became - Parked up at the carpark and the temp read minus 3 degrees.
Perfection.

Got a couple vids uploading to Youtube at the moment, might embed them later :)

Looks good! The weather was a lot better than forecast everywhere today by looks of things. I still haven't been able to justify the travelling time to Cairngorm but will hopefully do it sometime this season. You were lucky to get through on the A9, apparently it closed again this morning after the carnage of yesterday.

I agree, the A9 was closed yesterday for 9 hours or so I heard.. and then on my way home back down the A9 tonight, another lorry jack-knifed! Had to follow a horrible, long diversion that took me down some dodgy backroads.. but got home safely in the end :)

Good luck finding the time and conditions to make a day of skiing up north, i'm sure you'll get it :) I'm thinkin bout goin up again next week - we'll see how things plan out I guess!

Wonderful conditions  That has to be the best I have ever seen it looking. You must have been really chuffed that you made the (slightly) epic journey :D

Was very chuffed indeed! Wish it was like that most of the time to be honest, but to catch it once is better than never - hoping the conditions will be similar next week!
