I am off to Sainte Foy in France Jan 9th and I am renting a Snow Bike. Blade front and rear and small blades on each foot. I am 67 years of age and I am hoping that this will take the strain off the legs and give me a few more years on the white stuff. No jumps for me as I see on UTube (daft kids) but a bit off cruising and maybe just into the off piste for the experience. Appreciate any comments of previous users.
Thank you Brian

Good on ya old boy
I didn't actually try them, wasn't willing to waste a powder day (week). I was on skis and he was on the bike ;)
He seemed to think anyone could pick it up really quick and also seemed to resent the fact he hadn't invested in a chalet instead of 40 snowbikes

I spoke to the guy that rents the snowbikes in Sainte Foy and enjoyed a run with him. When I say run he bet me he could keep up... he couldn't
Anyway, he looked like he was having plenty fun on groomed runs but struggling with anything not groomed.
Sainte Foy is a great place, hope you enjoy it. Where are you staying?

Hello Thank you for your input.
Was your bike a "Brentner" yellow thing with a ball for the suspension ?? May have mis spelled the name. Yes I am having a morning lesson from Richard who lets them out. Based in Southampton but Sainte Foy in the winter. I have rheumatoid arthritis in my body but at the moment I am OK but I now find skiing too taxing, hence the snow bike thing. I am staying at the Auberge down the hill near La Thuile. All a bit of an adventure, my wife has opted out so I am doing a solo.
Appreciate some info please. Sounds like you were a natural !!! Are you a young person ? Facilities, standard of pistes, access from my chalet. etc. Can one leave the bike in resort ? Any photos ?
Again thank you for your reply.

Sorry to jump into the thread Brian, but I just want to say welcome to J2Ski, and what an inspiration you probably are to many people :P
I only hope I am still as adventurous as you when (if!) I make 67.
Hope you have a great trip.

Thanks for the comments, I am a 67 year old going on 25 !!!! One of the write ups was that an 80 year old had taken it up, he says he was good for another 20 years. Now there is an a half full man rather than half empty ! The bikes are not cheap so economically, rental for my remaining time would be the option.

As I understand the use of the boot skids on ski bikes, you don't necessarily need real ski boots. I would guess that you might use mountaineering boots, snowboard hard shell boots, or touring ski boots, so long as the sole is compatible with the clip in bindings. These would be a lot more comfortable to walk around in.
On the site below, I saw some skids with snowboard bindings that accept ordinary snowboard boots (really comfortable to walk in)
