Hi all,

There's a question that's driving me insane lately...

I'm flying to Vienna December 5th for a week. Snow forecasts are confusing because j2ski is completely different than snow-forecast...

Options are: Mayrhofen, Solden or Schaldming. The first and the latter are preferable because they are big, nicer and even slightly cheaper.

I would go for Schaldming but is there enough good quality snow there?...

Please help me decide. Much appreciated! :-o

Either you missed your flight or you're off next week...

A week is a long time in a snow forecast - you'll probably find the predictions converge as the time approaches.

It's a little way out yet but looks like getting pretty cold around Vienna next week; no major dumps in the offing right now but a good chance of some light snow between now and then.

Looks like Solden has a little more snow right now but that will change - hold fire and decide the day before! 8)

Yes, December 11th ;)

So the snow will probably not be good in Mayrhofen and Schaldming?

Was in Schladming last Christmas and the snow was fantastic (very cold too), although lower down it was a bit patchy which wasn't an issue really. Judging by the webcams this morning it's looking vary bare and a bit wet apart from the higher slopes, looks like the forecast is for a drop in temperatures below zero for a prolonged period not sure how much snow there is going to be though. There are exetensive snow making facilities so I would hazard a guess that the conditions would improve, albeit with artificial snow!

PS In case people that travel to Vienna aren't aware, thumbs up to Austrian Airlines who don't charge for Ski equipment from London to Vienna (please check just to make sure; we booked in September and there were no charges).

according to the Sschladming website there isn't any snow

try Obertuern where there is plenty ...and is putting down a fair bit at the moment according to the webcams about 80 miles further by road
