Hi!
We are a bunch of skiers from finland going to the Dolomites in february-march. I´m been trying to get some information on where I could find the best valley to stay at. We are going to stay for three weeks - and we are going to change valley/resort/area where we are going to live. After some research I´ve found out that Arabba is a great area for them who like off-piste. So I think we are going to be there for the first half of our trip but we don´t know where we should live the second half.
Could you please help me with this?
If YOU have been there and know the area could you recommend a area? We are looking for off-piste, we are going to ski not party (not so much anyway..).
Regards
Oskar

Are you set on the Dolomites Oskar? A few hours drive will get you round into the Aosta Valley and the Monte Rosa ski area - Champoluc and Alagna; Alagna has a reputation both for brilliant off-piste and for being pretty unspoilt (it's for skiers, not party animals) so might make an ideal second base for you.

Do you know how we can get around in those areas - there isn´t a train, right? We don´t have a car and we are flying to Venice - and trying to take a skishuttle from there to Arabba.
But do you know how the buses go between the vallyes in general, If we would go to Champoluc and Alaga? What woulb be the best way to get there from Arabba? Ideas?
Thanks for a fast reply - I REALLY appriciate it. Have been askin on forums in finland and in sweden -but nobody seems reply. Do you know any other ski/snowboard chat forums in Italy or in central Europe where people could help me out?
Thanks man

Oskar,
Arabba is a great base not for just off piste but on piste too. You have access to 100's of kilometers of piste that revolve around the sella mountain region.
Have a look in http://www.snowheads.com and you will find quite a lot of information on the area. Also if you have furtehr questions there is a good chance you will get answers over there too.
Good luck

if you're interested for on piste adventure as well, then do the sella circuit. Look this link: http://www.val-gardena.net/winter/eng/sellaronda.htm
Have fun.
This round can be skied by good skiers, as it's rather intensive skiing, due too to length of the circuit.

I stayed at Selva for a few days two years ago. The scenery is gorgeous. The Sella Ronda circuit is fun for its sense of traveling around, but is not super challenging in terms of skiing. Arabba is the best on the circuit; quite good but not a true hard core spot. To get there you can take the train to Belluno and a bus from there to Arabba - see www.dolomitibus.it
