Hello people. I’m back from Tignes fully equipped with all my limbs .

We had a fantastic holiday but I’ve established that spring conditions are not for me. One of the last things my physio said to me was to try to avoid slush, d’oh . All the slopes were icy at the top, three lovely turns and then slush the rest of the way down. One particular narrow slope into Val Claret was absolutely teaming with people on their back sides or just stuck in the slush. I saw more skidoos dragging injured people off the mountain in that week than I’ve seen in my whole skiing life. In fact, three of our 26 were injured and out of action (fortunately, all three managed to ski again by the last day).

However, it all changed on wednesday afternoon when Graham took me to the area around the glacier express in Val D’Isere, the snow there was absolutely glorious. The next day it snowed very heavily in Tignes (Neiltoo arrived at the right time!) so the skiing from then on was wonderful.

The time of year and resort were obviously one of the worst possible choices for my rehabilitation so I’m trying to keep the memory of the last day in my mind as, on the whole, I feel disappointed with my skiing .

Saying that, Graham, the boys and most of the rest of the group absolutely loved the skiing, my knees are intact and the stickers worked on my jacket so, all in all, it was a successful holiday :D.

A big shout out to the Loop Bar where we were daily, they really looked after us and what with the 9 euro / 3 pint pitcher at happy hour we were laughing. Much more pleasant than the 22 euro / two small beers and two orange juices in Val D'Isere .

I'm now officially depressed :(

I'm glad you had a good time, and have avoided joining the ranks of spectators  Did you get much decent deckchair time in ?

:D

Glad to hear you are safe and sound. I didn't want to say it before you went, but I thought you were going particularly late in the season. Tignes is pretty high and therefore virtually snowsure for late season, but if its been warm and not much fresh stuff, it can be as you found it.
I was in Verbier 1st week in April last year and we were lucky to have fresh snow on 3 days, although only higher up. It was a bit sticky lower down, but I quite liked it personally. I can imagine it wasnt great with your knee though.
Austria in January is what you should aim for )

Caron,
I'm glad you got back OK and had a reasonable holiday in spite of the slush.
