Off to Passo Tonale and Folgarida in a few days. Done PT before and intend to drive to Folgarida after a day or two to try some new slopes. Has anyone been there and got any advice? We are still blue slope skiers and are looking forward to trying out the long blues.

Would also like to try Madonna di Campiglio but would like to avoid the drive. I understand it is possible to ski from Folgarida but it seems the slopes are reds. Anyone skied from Folgarida to Madonna di Campiglio and can let us know what it is like? We'd like to avoid any difficult reds.

Thanks,

Geoff

You will have to ski a red to ski from Folgarida over to Madonna and back. The first time I skied these runs I found them tricky as someone just starting to tackle reds - now I don't even think about them as being particularly difficult. You could park in Folgarida and catch the bus to Madonna if you really don't want to drive. Folgarida/Madonna are great ski areas and the scenery in the Dolomites is just stunning. Madonna itself is a fairly chic resort but has some lovely runs particularly on the Groste area. Try some of the reds on Groste!

I was there last year and also in 2004 and I agree with jastem that it's a great resort. There's an excellent long blue back down to the villages of Folgarida from Malhget Aut. The reds linking Flogarida and Madonna are tricky (easier coming back) but nothing ventured nothing gained because once in Madonna there are lots of great blues. The reds and blacks are great also. The mountain restaurants are also good value. All in all one of my favourite resorts (out of the nearly 20 I've been to).

Nugget - definitely one of our favourite resorts/areas too.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. We decided to stick to Passo Tonale and work on our skiing so we could complete all the red slopes there. Got a great instructor, did all the local reds and even managed to get down a short black. Now next time we go we should be able to get across to Madonna from Folgarida on those tricky reds. :-)

Had a great time, but the snow was slushy and hard work from lunch time. Need lessons on how to get up earlier in the morning!

Cheers,

Geoff

Glad you had an enjoyable holiday and clearly made great progress in the lessons. So next time you will be able to ski the links from Folgarida/Marilleva over to Madonna. There is a black in Madonna called something like Amazon or Amazonia which you should do - it is wide and tree-lined and great for confidence building! It was my second ever black and the first I managed upright all the way down!

Thats easy, dont drink late the night before.
Also, have you thought about going earlier in the season so the snow doesn't slush up?
