I have never had a summer hol abroad mainly due to my fear of flying. Have conquered that now with all the winter hols. This year I want to surprise Hubby with a summer hol abroad not not long haul.
I have been looking at going to Corsica it seems to tick all the box's for us, but this is my query:
Have tapped into Thompson's web site and they are the biggest TO to go to Corsica. The search for our dates comes up as follows:
Between 4* and 5* hotels, flights, car hire and band b ranges from £700 to £1200 per person. So that means probably basic continental breakfast, 1 room with balcony and swimming pool shared with the rest of the hotel.
Then there are appartments with flights, car hire and a shared pool etc with just the few appartments in the gardens about £500 to £700 per person.
Then it shows up villa's, with flights, car hire, private pool, garden etc between £650 to £900 per person. But when you look at the specifications for the villa they are usually 3-4 bedrooms. And there will only be the two of us. Have filled in the booking forms as far as actually booking to see if there will be any supplements because there will only be two of us.
So the villa seems to be the best but will that villa be just for us or could they put other families in with us, you know like catered ski holidays.
Obviously I would confirm all this with TO before actually booking but wonder if any-one has had experience of this.
Many thanks in advance

If Hubby was involved in this holiday I would consider DIY but as its for a surprise and I am doing it I would probably go TO. But will check every-thing out I would die it the families from 'hell' shared the villa.
Unfortunately just the one week, from either 31st May or 1st June.
Thanks Tino, will certainly look into that

I would be very wary about the villa and other people, I think checking with the TO is the way to go.
Have you thought about DIY? I no longer bother with TO's ever, half the fun is designing my own holiday.

Best place to start is TripAdvisor.
They list all hotels by poularity, you can really screen for what you need then go and investigate price on some of the big hotel search engines (laterooms, expedia etc). After you have found the hotel(s) of your choice look at flights (www.skyscanner.net is the best tool around). Then if you need a car the best option I have seen around is to go to the website of the airport you are flying to and look for the links there, you get all the local companies as well as the biggies (Hertz, Avis etc) and find the best option for you.
If you wanna do something really special regarding accomodation www.shl.com (small luxury hotels) is a blinder, I have checked this already for Corsica there is only a pair and they are very expensive.
So 3 steps to heaven. Accomodation, Flights, Transfer...........easy!

Remember the really good reviews/really bad ones are sometimes made by the hotels themselves/competitors!
