Hope someone can help I have a pair of skis which I bought last year they have only been skied on for one week but would benifit from a wax and tune. I would be interested in learning how to do this myself at some point but what i wanted to know is there anywhere in the southeast of England who does ski servicing I know about snow and rock and the likes but all they want to do is grind away my skis on a machine I was hoping to find someone to do it by hand and let the wax soak in before scraping it off. Doing a decent job not just taking my money. There is a chap in Nottingham who looks like he does a great job and runs courses but I live in Berkshire and was hoping for someone alittle more local. All help greatfully recieved.

andyoxon welcome to J2ski :D I prefer to do basic servicing for myself. Try this online video tutorial if you fancy having a go.

Great video - where else would you get help like that - forget the fun banter, that is what this site is all about

Go to snow and rock if it is handy and just ask them not to grind the base.

The original poster is now posting on another skiers forum offering free beer to any of spyderjons' ex ski tuning students, if they'll service his skis :D

I could lie I suppose

A base grind is not an automatic step in tuning. If you specify an edge tune, and wax - they aren't going to grind your base. Of course, if you have gouges, or a non-flat base, it would be a good idea to get it flattened out.
