I managed to snap the rear of my recently purchased (but ancient) 2nd-hand Atomic Beta 9 Carvers recently.
Firstly I have no real idea when or how I did it, noone seemed to believe it was possible.
They're snapped about 2" behind the rear of the binding. From the top layer almost down to the base so that the sides & base have been all that were holding them together.
Well.. gotta get a repair quote ("bin them") so I can attempt to claim something off my ski insurance, but was wondering if this is common?
Anyone else ever snapped a ski?
Can they be repaired?
I'm about 6foot tall and weigh a not inconsiderable 15stone (97KG?)
Any tips on buying new ones?
Any skies out there designed specifically for fatties?
I was doing red / black on-piste (only) skiing. No jumps or anything special.
Cheers folks!

He could always try skiing on SPAM
yeah true enough - they're approx 10 years old and the XS on the insurance is £50 so probably not worth bothering I guess. Bit annoying though really.
What's SPAM???
Here you go, this should help to explain it :D

Lots of people snap skis, you can't repair them.
There is a bit of a market going on for single skis but doubt you'd get a beta 9.
What do you like skiing? Powder/groomer preferences?

The Cobra S is an old, outdated ski. You will get on much better with 'newer' technology!

elgius time to read the small print in your policy. Most insurers have a sliding scale for payouts, based on ski age.
