Hi can anyone tell me whether Samoen village would be a good place to stay for some skiing over Easter? I am intermediate but the others are beginners and I really want them to have a good time. Do you reckon there will be snow there during Easter and how far are the slopes from the village?

Hi
Was in samoens a couple of weeks ago..The lift is about 1k from the village but this is no problem as this is is served by a free bus that goes right round the village. The village is quite a pretty little place with lots of shops and bars and a couple of small supermarkets...the skiing is great and I would definitely get the full lift pass but for the beginners I would get the cheapest as there are plenty of runs for them to go at(these are at the top of the gondola that goes from the village in about 6 minutes) and it is much more interesting in Samoens than in Flaine...and cheaper to eat in, but it is still not cheap....they do know how to charge..If you are hiring skis/boots do it on-line beforehand as it in MUCH cheaper.if you are going self catering take as much as you can...but if you have transport there are a couple of "proper" supermarkets out of town. I would go again
As to Snow conditions at Easter ...don't know I await more posts

As daved has said upper slopes should be fine but it is a low valley resort so runs will suffer late in the season
but samoen is a great resort both summer and winter. :D

Hello,
Been to Samoens twice at Easter. Always been fantastic conditions (especially at Flaine).
Queues not too bad. Village nice and warm to come down off mountain to. We had lots of fresh snow driving over to Flaine through Les Carroz in 2006.
This year with the excellent snow conditions I reckon it should be fine. (Though of course I am no weather expert!)

Thanks for that. My problem is that they are leaving it up to me. Not sure whether to play safe and go somewhere further up. Any ideas on whether i should pay abit more and go to Val thorens, Tigne, Val d'isere or La Plagne? Its so long since i went skiing I haven't a clue!

Personally, with those choices, I'd go to La Plagne, although VT is highest and possibly the most snowsure. Val d'Isere would also be good but pricey I would imagine.
