Hey everyone, I am heading over to Canada in winter 09-10. I am hoping to get some work in the ski resorts i am going through a company to help me get work all sorted before i leave Australia (i know its not the cheapest or best option but my mum is instant since iam going alone and its my first time overseas). I want to go somewhere which has some Canadians. I hear some of the resorts are packed with aussies which would be fun but i can kinda do that at home. I have to choose out of the following resorts and iam unsure which would offer me the best experience in Canada!

* Lake Louise
* Big White
* Silver Star
* Whistler
* Nakiska
* Rimrock

Its kind of a toss up between LL or Whistler! But from what i have heard Whistler is good but very expensive and will be packed because of the olympics. Lake Louise is good but i have heard it can be quite and a bit boring! I would really like to go somewhere not overly packed but still have some night life. I have only been bording once before so iam not an expert!
I have heard mixed reports about most resorts, so any info would be well appreciated?

At the risk of sounding facetious, most Canadian resorts will have at least some Canadians there!!!!

Of the resorts you mention, most are tourist based. For a real experience somewhere like Jasper, Alberta would be a good choice. As well as being a real Canadian small town, the Rockies Academy do courses there so there will always be some youngsters around to socialise with.

Banff.. gives you three resorts-Sunshine, Lake Louise, Norquay plus easy access to numerous others.

Edit: Banff is an excellent town, plenty decent nightlife!

haha yes most Canadian resorts will have some Canadians there, but i dont want the resort i pick to be packed with Australians when i go over.
do they run buses to the mountains from banff?
cause at the moment iam leaning more towards working in rimrock hotel and just trecking to the mountains when i wanna board! That way i kinda have the best of both worlds! only down side is having to buy a season pass!

i've always heard whistler is full of aussies!
Banff to lake lousie is 40-50 mins i believe, ross knows the best he spent 3 months there! there is a free bus running between the two covered by your lift pass!

I am biased as my company Premium Experiences is based in Whistler. But having been to almost all of BC's resorts, I have to say that Whistler has it all. Its got the vertical, terrain, backcountry, the heli and cat skiing and world class restaurants, bars and clubs.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about Whistler.

Hi there.

Generally speaking you tend to find that Aussies are really good at travelling so you will find them wherever you go! The rule of thumb is that the bigger resorts will have more aussies in them. So Whistler and Banff will have plenty. Also on the Whisttler front I think you may struggle to find accommodation due to the olympics. I have a few friends out there and they are saying that the landlords are charging a fortune over the olympics.

Of the ones you have listed I would go to Big White but I know that plenty of aussies go there. Have you thought about a resort like Fernie? It is a really cool town with plenty of challenging terrain and the people are real Canadians! Just a thought...

Which company are you thinking of going with and what are you looking to do? I looked at a company called nonstop ski www.nonstopski.comas I was looking to go to Canada on my own and they seemed really helpful.
