Sorry to be asking a snow chains question but I did look at the questions that hasve already been asked but couldnt find the answer.

I have been looking on ebay at buying some snow chains. However, I have noticed they come in different thickness of chains. some are 5mm, 9mm or 16mm that Ihave com across. Does it make a difference?

We are driving from Amsterdam to Niederau on 14th Feb. our tyres are 205/60/r15.

These 9mm chains are £30 plus postage http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ALL-NEW-SUPERIOR-9MM-ICE-GRIP-EASY-FIT-CAR-SNOW-CHAINS_W0QQitemZ190277598127QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item190277598127&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1299%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1307

do you think they look easy enough to fit?

or would these cheaper ones work just as well?

thanks for your help

Karen

Not being completely aware of the route.. are chains essential?

they are a legal requirement. Not sure if I will actually need to use them though.

For ten quid I'd go for the 9mm... having had crappy chains disintegrate in the past...

The design of both looks familiar and is quite common; the fitting is relatively straightforward.

As soon as you get them, have a practice run in the daylight.

Then wait until dark, park your car in the muddiest part of your garden and get your husband / children / neighbours to throw buckets of cold water, gravel and ice cubes at you until you've fitted them, driven 10 metres and removed them again... 8)

We bought chains from Halfords a few years ago, didn't need to use them so took them back for a refund
The plan is.... there's no plan!

only legally required if you're on a snowy road, a common sense law I think
