I noticed this site had nothing on Alpendorf and St. Johan in Pongau so I thought I'd add something.
BTW, I am an American working as a ski instructor in Alpendorf. I have also skied all over the Austrian, Swiss and French Alps for the last 20 years.
Alpendorf is an exceptional ski area. We have lots and lots of easy runs, quite a few steep pistes, some nice (challenging)tree runs, and a lift system second to none. Most of our lifts are high speed 6 person chairs, or gondolas.
You can get on a lift in Alpendorf and skin into Wagrain and Flachau. Your ski pass is valid on about 260 lifts!!! You can easily ski Alpendorf, Wagrain, Flachau, Klein Arl, Flachauwinkl, and Sauchensee without driving.
We are not a famous resort (although Herman Meier learned to ski here), but we have world class skiing.
Many, many English speaking guests frequent our resort, so most of the restaurants and hotels have English speaking staffs. If you are not an advanced skier, and/or are concerned about the language, come to my ski school and sign up for 5 or 6 days of ski lessons. We will improve your skiing ability, take you to a different restaurant every day (translate if necessary), let you race your friends, and give you a wonderful farewell party on Friday.
I have skied Vail, Breckenridge, Jackson Hole, Salt Lake city resorts, West Virginia, Canada, Val d'Isere, Tignes, Chamonix, St. Anton, Ischgl, Portes du Soleil, Three Valleys (France), Grindelwald, Zermatt, and many other resorts, and I picked Alpendorf as the place where I wanted to work!
It's a great place!

I had my first ever ski trip to St. Johan in Pongau 26 years ago and loved the place. Wont even try to describe the mountain as I daresay the whole lift system has changed. Fond memories, especially about being smitten by our gorgeous Australian ski instructor. She was a vision !!! But thats another story!!! And the answer to your question is 'NO' but I can still picture her now.

Went to Wagrain over Christmas and New Year - what a great place, ski area was massive with links to over 11 villages - very few lift queues.
Wagrain and surrounding areas must be the best kept secret - forget France, transfer time from Salzburg airport just 45-50 mins.
Stayed in a lovely apartment overlooking Wagrain Market Town - the apartment was large with vaulted ceiling, Wellness area etc.
There is also a great Water Park open all year round.
What a place !!

I have only ever skied in Alpendorf. It is a brilliant area for all levels of skiing. we have always stayed in St Veit, until recently when we did a self catering in Radstadt.
We put our kids into ski school every time too and they love it.
the only time i have encountered queues is on a morning at the gondola to get up the mountain - somethimes it is a bit stressful especially at school holiday times.
we always use the same ski school and they always remember us every time we go and we have never had a problem with them. the have the week lessons and then put on a presentation for all classes on a friday after the skiing. even the adults get medals!!!
my hubbies family are all excellent skiers and they all come over from norwich and meet us there as they enjoy the atmosphere of the 'family' holiday. they love watching the kids progress through the week of lessons too.
i keep saying i want to try somewhere new, but we always end up in Alpendorf, it is only a 7 hour drive from where we are in germany.
Just thought i would put my 2p's worth.
