Hello,
Looking for some advice, there's a small difference size wise between my left & right foot, what's the best option when buying/renting boots, go for the larger size and wear an extra layer on the smaller foot ?
Different size feet

It is easier for a bootfitter to make a smaller boot fit a bigger foot, and really hard to make an oversize boot fit a smaller foot. The result of buying a boot too big will be a sloppy fit.
Ski boot shells tend to fit 2 Mondopoint sizes. For example, a 25.0 and a 25.5 will be the same shell but with different thickness liners.
It's really important to get the correct size shell. Have you been measured for a ski boot yet?

Most people have slightly different sized feet.
The buying/renting question is one only you can answer ... will you ski enough to befefit from buying, etc ??
There's loads of threads on boot buying here.

I have the same problem! I find that a thick sock on the smaller foot and a thin one on the other works fine. Also don't be afraid to exchange your boots - you'll be amazed what a difference trying different makes does.

Everyones feet are different sizes.
I would consider looking into buying an insole for the boot going on the bigger foot to pack it out a little.
Leave the sizing to the fitter though.

depends on the size differencial, if small it is normally easily accomodated by slight modifications to the boot, aim to be as small as you can without causing pain/damage to the larger foot, boots can be stretched and ground out to acomodate the larger foot, shrinking the boot is a lot tougher and rarely works ;) when nthe difference is vast then the only true oprio is to have a split pair or have a shell custom made with a filler in it, i have a couple fo clients who have to use this type of option [4 sizes difference due to birth defect] they both opt for the split shell sizes option , most of our suppliers will try to help out with pricing or odd boots form a sample set to save paying full price for 2 pairs of boots
