We are going to Bad Gastein over Christmas, never been there before, from what I hear our chances of snow are not very good! Does anyone have idea if this true or not? :(

What makes you say that?
The Gastein valley has as good a snow record as anywhere in Austria, if not better than most in fact.

From what i was told by a family when i was there is that they'd been about 5 times and they'd been able to ski to the valley floor once!

When i was there the snow wasn't great but it was the bad year 2006/7!

Having said that the snow up on sportgastein was lovely so you maybe best heading up here!

According to The ski club of GB's historical snow data your looking at rougly 80cm's up top and 20cm's down bottom! But don't forget that the blue down the bottom has the snow making abilities!

I have only been once and we had snow right to the valley floor (natural stuff)

Belinda,

You hould be fine up top but the snow maybe sparce on the lower slopes. Sportgastein will be open and the conditions will be good, that's pretty much a given.

Last year, there was a massive dump about 2 weeks before Christmas - i've seen photos of the conditions and it was amazing!!! Hardly anyone there too. By Christmas though, the conditions weren't as good.

It's a bit of lottery but you'll be fine I promise.

Cheers
Kersh
