Hundreds trapped by heavy snow in Spain
Heavy snowfall left 600 vehicles trapped overnight on a highway from Leon to Austurias and dozens of mountain passes closed.

Soldiers helped police rescue people trapped in some 600 vehicles overnight on a stretch of the highway linking Leon to Austurias, a spokesman for traffic management agency DGT said.
The highway reopened to cars and buses but not to all trucks late on Monday after being closed for 21 hours. Dozens of mountain passes remained closed.
Classes were cancelled for 13,000 students in the region of Castile and Leon, and for another 5,000 in the northwestern region of Galicia.
Snow reached as far south as the mountains of the Sierra de la Tramuntana on the Mediterranean holiday island of Majorca.
Five people, including four between the ages of 18 and 20, had to be rescued by helicopter after being cut off by the heavy snowfalls in Sierra de Durcal, near
Granada, Spanish media also reported.
