I thought my only option for summer skiing was Argentina and Chile - too far and too expensive for me I'm afraid - but on a US website I learn that several European glacier resorts open in the summer!!
Does anyone have any experience of how good the skiing is this and a recommendation on when and where to go?
(I know this may seem a little odd as the new winter season is upon us but I'm already booked for the SkiWelt at Christmas and Switzerland in March and am keen to know where my next fix will be coming from!)

Have you considered Kaprun?
Summer skiing is pretty good there, I understand and if conditions are not so good after lunch you have the option of spending some time on and around the lake @ Zell am See.
I spoke to a guy last season who has a week on that basis every year, skiing in the morning and biking in the afternoon, round the water. He reckoned its a fabulous way to spend the time.

Zermatt opens year round. I last went in September 2007. Conditions were superb, though that is a subjective view of course :D I'm due back there in Nov.

Have skied both Kaprun & Zermatt in summer, it's great to get that snow/ski 'fix', just don't expect anything as extensive as your winter trips. But as the other posters mention - there are plenty of other outdoor activities to get involved in in both resorts later in the day.
I ddin't 'summer ski' this year for ths girst time in 3 years anbd really missed that little fix.

P.S. If late summer Zermatt probably the better bet as higher altitude.

Hi guys, thanks for all replies and info. Looks like I'll be heading off to either Zermatt or Kaprun/Zell next summer... and the summer after.....plenty of sunshine and none of that nasty sandy stuff in sight, hooray!
