Helmets

Hi all,

Whats the view on helmets? As a beginner i guess they're a good idea and might get 1 for learning at the local indoor slope (the hire ones smell!), don't want to look a complete cock on the slopes though, although my skill level will probably take care of that!

Buy a well known make, GIro, Red etc. See if you can get a discount online. Get one that fits.

Try em on in Ellis Brigham/Snow and Rock to check for a size then order online. If you already have goggles make srure the model you have is compatible

I wear a helmet regardless whether i'm skiing or snowboarding on or offpiste. If i look a cock i dont care - it keeps my head warm when its cold, the music plays from the earcovers and the goggles fit well with them.

Oh and when the safety bar gets pulled down before your ready, some out of control skier / boarder hits me, a low branch twats me, someone falls off the chair lift in front of me, someone standing with skiis or a board in the gondola tags me....... the helmet saves me a heed ache....

If your a beginner snowboarder - wear one!! its just one less place to hurt! lol

There are loads of different styles out there, look for the one you like (and is less cock looking ??), try it on, with your goggles too.

You'll find that it becoming more and more common for everyone using the slopes to wear a brain bucket.

I love my helmet (best purchase of the past few seasons) and it has already paid for itself when I met a tree.

as a beginner get yourself in the habit now, it's too easy to not wear one, I don't and I know I should, which probably means I'm more of an idiot than someone who deosn't know he should wear one. But I just love the feel of the wind in my hair :twisted: :roll:

After 25 years of wearing a ski hat or cap I, too, was worried about the 'looking like a cock' factor.

Now after five years of wearing a helmet, it feels normal (and in Canada you'd feel abnormal without one, it would appear) and I have avoided a few stitches at least by wearing one.

You might think you're the safest. steadiest thing on the slopes, but you can't legislate for the other idiots! :evil:
