hi all im just wondering if any of ye ever suffered from the above subject.
i've been skiing now for 6 years and only this year i managed to get the nerve to go down a black it was the face in valdsere i enjoyed it alot when i got to the bottom, but i must say it bothers me a small bit that some people i was with kept saying to me to go faster.as you can imagine i didn't i came down the very same pace as i would a red in control and with the ability to know that i could stop at any time i had to.I know i will never be a fast skier but i enjoy what i do is there any way of getting over the fear of going fast.
thanks

I don't know about getting over the fear of speed, but skiing at a controlled pace you are comfortable with is SO important, so good for you for sticking to your guns and enjoying it.

mikei, When you say people tell you to go faster how 'slow' are you going?
Even at moderate speeds I can feel and hear the wind resistance on my clothing.
Are you parallel turning down the black in medium to small radius turns or going far left to far right horizontally along most of the piste width before turning?

perhaps if you try and speed things up just a little you'll find the tunrs that little bit easier, especially so when on blacks.
I would have got away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids!

Since you have just started going on blacks, you are absolutely right not to be getting up speed :!: :!: :!:
If you are a bit of a slow coach, I would suggest that you find a big wide empty blue that is well pisted and push yourself to ski with a fair bit of pace. After you have been doing this for a while, you should get used to travelling faster. Then, you can gradually transfer this speed onto steeper slopes, while still being confident of remaining in control.
You might also consider taking a private lesson, explain to the instructor what your concerns are and he/she will push up the speed but still ensure that you are not out of control.
Good luck and, most of all, enjoy

of course one wonders if perhaps it's a little premature to be tackling black runs :?:
