Ever pick up an Atomic Metron ski?

90% of skiers mention right away how "heavy all Metrons are".

The cause of this weight is the binding which is "forced" on the skiers since only Neox or Atomic bindings must be installed according to Atomic! They are very heavy!

Here is a solution for the "weighty" problem.

On all Metrons there is a plate integrated into the ski. There is a silver fascia or section which is just thin metal. It has no fnctional value, in short it is for the look.(and to hide plate screws ) It is clipped on and can be taken out with a thin knife blade or scraper.

You now can determine where the correct screw areas for any binding can be placed. All modern Rossi, Salomon, and Fischer bindings can be installed!
Just drill holes and return silver plate back on.

VoilĂ , you have great ski that is much ligther and livier!

Of course get this done by qualified ski technician! If he /she has problems tell them to contact me. I have just done 10 pairs for local shop.

Pavel,
Were these new skis, that you modified?

Bandit,

These were new skis that I got from Atomic ski company last year. Loved them but hated weight.
They are the B5 Metrons and B5 SX models. However all Atomic Metrons have this configurations.

I did not modify them in any way,,except took off heavy heavy demo binding off after I bought them. I have several spare bindings so I verified which model would best fit on Atomic platform.

I installed my Rossi racing models on platform! Perfect fit!

Hope this clarifies issue.

Thanks Pavel, though I am a little confused, you said:

Would the action you took, then invalidate the warranty supplied by the manufacturer?
You said that you did them for a local ski shop:

Would that shop then be selling or renting out the modified skis?

Bandit,
This was done specifically on the request of the owner, who was aware of the actions taken.
The skis were two years old and there was no warranty on the skis.

Atomic Ski Company has a plastic top on which the drill holes for Neox bindings are stamped on! In essence "forcing" skiers to buy their bindings.
If you have better or lighter bindings you can install them!

To answer your specific question,,yes if your skis are broken, cracked,,Atomic can use this as a reason not to respect warrenty! After 2 years very few ski companies will respect warrenty on any ski!

Hope this helps you!

Bandit,
Called the Atomic Service Manager and asked about your warrenty issue!

If done by a "qualified" certified ski shop technician that warrenty wil be respected (after inspection of the skis)!

I also called Fischer Ski Company about issue and they also told me that they would honor warrenty (first year) even if another binding was installed.

Very interested in this as I have a pair of B5i's and love them but god those bindings - couldn't believe the differnce in weight after they were fitted to the skis.

Any suggestions for a good intermediate/early advance skier ?

I guess it depends on you do do with the skis.

If I were buying another pair of Metrons, I would certainly consider Pavel's solution. As he says, it's only that strip of tin that makes mounting alternative bindings intimidating. Two things that I would consider first are, what type of skiing do I do ?, and is there an advantage to the standard Neox binding ?

If like me, you just use the Metrons for carving up the groomers, then the extra weight is less of a problem. however if you need to be light on your skis, then lighter bindings might be benificial.

For carving, the weight of the Metron/Neox combination seems to cut through just about anything. The rail mounted Neox bindings cope well with the dacambering that occurs in carving.

because I'm so inclined .....
