Hi Dave
Sorry I missed your maths, I was picking myself up off the floor after seeing that price !!!
Good idea and would give the flexibility to go to Westendorf and still be workable price. Going to have a look at that today and start working on my sons to plant the seed of DIY.
Kind regards
Jane

Hi Jane,
Sorry for the delay, we are flying from Manchester, although with Inghams we booked through ski freshtracks who are part of Virgin.
Regards
Dale
Please tell me more!!! We've booked the Harfenwirt for New Years (price = umm... you could have got two of your hols to one of us). BUT so looking forward to it. What can we expect? Do they keep the gondola open for us to get up the mountain for the fireworks? Are the lifts open on New Year's Day?
Yes the lifts are open on New Years Day. The Harfenwirt is a good location, Herbert, the owner, will, no doubt, be playing his harp.
You will see the fireworks from the village, it is most spectacular. It's a good hotel. Give Herbert my regards.
When I worked for the ski school, we used to ski down from the top, before midnight, carrying two flaming torches each. We would first form up into the numbers of the old year, and then reform into the numbers of the New Year, all could be seen from the village. Now it is all done lower down, and more simply.
There may be another firework display, a day later, in Oberau, along with a ski show ~ well worth a visit, it's all free.

Try The Hotel Post direct in Westendorf used them early last Feb, clean tidy right in the cntre of Westendorf, just a walk across the road to the first lift and ski schools. A short tranverse takes yo to the main lifts to access the rest of the Ski Welt.
Used Stfan's taxi's in Westendorf for the transfer from Munich airport, again reseanable price and one of the all round cheaper trips I have been on recently,as thecost in the mountains cheaper than France and Italy.
Flew with Lufthansa but not around Xmas/New Year time so only £100.

Yes to Stefans taxis, or Four Seasons, but the lowest cost Westendorf hotel is looking at over £900 for New year.

Hi Dale
Thats our prefered airport.
Bizarely found a site that had Diane listed and at your price.
So excited ..... rang up to check price and book.
They couldn't find it. What!!! It's looking at me.
Frustratingly fast forward story...
The site had the listings from a variety of airports within reasonable distance, but apparently is not a dynamic site or something so all those listings as "available" could have been sold out months ago.
So my elation has been thwarted.
Kind regards
Jane

Wildschoenau Tourist office.

Burgstallhof Fram Hotel, 218 Euro, = £188 pp, b&b. 7 min walk to lift.
It's getting cheaper by the posting.

So that is £300 for the Dianne, HB, £96 for the lufthansa to Munich, if still available. Train/taxi =£57.
Total = £453.
Think I will cancel Scheffau!
New Year in Niederau is fabulous. Because it is a hanging valley, (caused of course by the famous dragon), the fireworks are seen for 360 degress on the mountain tops.
There is a more expensive choice of transfer, door to door, with Four Seasons.

I wish I could meet the person who first decided to strap 2 planks to their feet and throw themselves down a mountain
