... but even if the Wildschoenau DOES have a dump next week, surely by now the ground is too warm to hold it? What base have you got there, Jan Stenmark? Sepp Seisl, Moarhof, would be my choice for an accurate forecast. L.

As long as the snow is better than the iced up Scottish resorts I'll be happy!

As they say if you can ski in Scotland you can ski anywhere :!: :D

Roll on my week in Austria Woohoo :!: About 15 sleeps or something now. Can't wait. :D

Jan, up for meeting up for a pint when im there??

Hi All,

In answer to questions about the snow / piste / base conditions I can confirm that there are increasingly large areas of grass around the resort but the main pistes are still covered.

Without doubt the base has suffered but I'm not convinced that the damage is irreparable. As Dave Mac and others have noted, Niederau is predominantly North facing and holds onto the base better than a low level resort has any real right to.

Looking at the weather today, it has been hot and sunny all day but now it’s feeling really eerie. There is a real feeling of anticipation in the atmosphere and some seriously dark clouds have started rolling in. The birds have been shouting all day and now they are silent and there’s not a breath of wind (so don’t ask me how the clouds are moving – ask Mr Admin!).

If I wake up tomorrow and it’s been snowing I don’t know if I’ll be surprised or not although it’s hard to imaging it snowing right now.

I’ll report more tomorrow.

It did snow over night!

Not a huge dump but a significant change in the weather and perhaps that’s the more important thing.

It’s hard to estimate the snow fall depth but probably about 40-50mm would be about right.

Also of interest is that the sky looks very much like it has more to offer which is certainly what the forecasts are saying.

More updates, as the day progresses…

Good news... seems to be a few cm of fresh in many of the webcams this morning - fingers crossed for more.

Keep us in the loop Mr Stenmark... 8)
