We've just received this from Trentino's tourist office...

Trentino wrote:Trentino is not a risky destination: at present, only a few cases of Coronavirus have been confirmed; none of these are of local origin but are all attributable to contagions from other Italian regions. The persons affected are doing well and all are under the full control of the local health authorities, who are constantly monitoring the situation.

All of the tourism services and facilities are functioning normally. The lifts and slopes are all open, and so are bars, restaurants, hotels, mountain huts and sports facilities.

There's more information here :- https://www.visittrentino.info/en/articles/practical-info/coronavirus-info

Obviously, the situation may change, but this is what they're saying today.

There's a new follow-up local news report on another self-isolating school child returning after a ski trip (Austria this time) that has thankfully tested negative for the virus. Again don't think its one of the two schools that got all the coverage a few weeks back. https://www.edp24.co.uk/news/health/pupil-from-springwood-school-norfolk-cleared-of-coronavirus-1-6545482

Thanks for update. This is from the Direct Gov website in U.K. "The majority of people with COVID-19 have recovered without the need for any specific treatment, as is the case for the common cold or seasonal flu. We expect that the vast majority of cases will best be managed at home, again as with seasonal colds and flu".

I think I heard for the first time last night the number of people who had recovered was reported, albeit a very brief mention on the BBC.

There are reports of substantial numbers of skiers returning from South Tyrol testing positive for Covid-19 in the German press https://www.suedkurier.de/baden-wuerttemberg/Viele-baden-wuerttembergische-Suedtirol-Rueckkehrer-erkranken-an-Corona;art417930,10461857

The Robert Koch Institute (Germany's public health institute) has now put South Tyrol on its list of risk areas https://www.rki.de/DE/Content/InfAZ/N/Neuartiges_Coronavirus/Risikogebiete.html There are videos in the Italian press showing workers disinfecting gondola lift cabins in Val Gardena https://gazzettadelsud.it/video-dal-web/dalla-rete/2020/03/05/coronavirus-cosi-disinfettano-le-cabinovie-in-val-gardena-98d28c9c-57b0-4edc-afa7-01a35aded4d2/

According to a local press report https://www.tageszeitung.it/2020/03/06/die-coronatest-wahrheit/ the reason that there are no confirmed cases of Covid-19 in South Tyrol is because very few people have been tested for it there.

There is no mention of any of this on the South Tyrol tourist information website https://www.suedtirol.info/en/information/coronavirus

Gulp! We were in Val Gardena for mid-term and were quite relaxed about the issue as it was not been treated as an affected area - we travelled via Munich do did not have to go through Verona or any of the Milan airports.

Thankfully, we are now back for 12 days and none of the group (of 21) have shown any symptoms.

However, there is an Irish case involving a family of 4 and it is being reported that 3 of them did not show any symptoms. The father is a doctor and was treating patients for several days before they realised they had a problem!
