I've been skiing twice now. Both time to Passo Tonale. I have travelled independently to Bergamo with Ryanair. I am looking for a new resort this year. I can fly into Turin or Bergamo and dont' mind a transfer of upto 3 hours. Can anyone recommend a scenic resort for an improving skier. Price is important too, Passo Tonale was good for that. the 2 main costs being accomodation/lessons/skipass. I plan to go maybe the week before Christmas week so a resort at higher altitude maybe desirable.

La Thuile might be a good bet nice village but is a bit low at 1300 meters, but the skiing is great also links to La Rossier in
france.
I had a long weekend in Passo tonale and it was cheap but the skiing for me was just a bit up and down.
I guess to best thing is to check out the early season snow and book late should be plenty of accommodation the week before xmas.

Or there's also courmayeur!? Village is quite lower then the slopes so generally get better snow up there! Also get the added bonus of your lift pass covering you for la thuile and chamonix!Tis about 1 1/2-2 hours from turin and roughly the same coming from geneva!

corvara - the lift pass covers the massive dolimite superski.
at 1500m it might be okay. most people go to selva and stop, however if you carry on a bit further you come to corvara and colfosco - there are fantastic long blue runs and easy reds to progres to..its worth a look.
OoOh and the mountian restaurents are to die for!
