Hi, Just thought I would report in on a really fantastic week in Sauze. Returned yesterday. Two ladies of maturing years (well 41, not too old I suppose). It's all in the mind anyhow and ours are like 16 year olds!

Stayed at the Hotel Gran Baita. If there is anyone who isn't sure about which hotel to stay at, THIS IS IT! Things that stick out in my mind are the food, GALA night was wonderful, they really make efforts to attain first class standards in taste and presentation, the hot showers are awesome and the beds are so comfortable. The owners are extremely welcoming infact the owner looks a little like Mel Gibson (which is always a bonus :-) and has a great dry sense of humour too, great for us every so slightly eccentric British! Would advise whilst there that you take the lift down to the sauna in the hotel, doors open and hey presto you are there. It's hot and smells lovely. Very good after a hard days skiing.

We went to ski school at Sportinia and had Corado who is a very knowledgable instructor, so self assured too that it makes you think you can be as good as him. By the end of the week I was able to follow closely behind him on some quite tough red runs and was very pleased with myself. He called me Kamikaze, don't know why!!

Anyone going out now will enjoy the latest dump of snow and it is fabulous at the top. Lots of white powdery stuff to ski through, heaven!

The only setback I had was on Wednesday when queing patiently for the 4 chair lift. A impatient skier barged past and knocked me flying sending my knees crashing inwards to the floor. Boy did it hurt my left inner knee. The guy did not even look round to apologise despite my request for an apology. So rude. Any way, I still went up the mountain and came back down very gingerly. I stayed in the hotel comfy area next day with a fellow knee injured snowboarder, we played extreme Jenga, had a giggle and polished off a bottle of wine! Turned out a nice day in the end!

By evening I was able to get to the awards ceremony for ski school and manage to ski the next day, thank God.

Apres wise, we really liked the bar in the main square, I think Ascietta?? it gets a lot of sun around 4pm if you get down the slopes early. Bar Derby down the hill is lovely and chilled and measures are excellent ;-), good music, comfy sofas, just what you need. And I have to say it, Paddy's has the edge on silliness and everyone seems to be smiling all the time in there, it has to be done folks, make sure you get a strawberry vodka shot or two too!!

We bought some of the flashing sunglasses on the last night, got the "looky looky" guy down to 3 euros a pair so don't pay more!! Had fun wearing those at Turin airport when we got delayed, people are generally so serious at airports aren't they? Not yesterday! He He :-), Buy some for the crack!

Pizza squares on the square are great value and taste yumshus!

Back to blighty now and it's Easter Monday. I expect hubby and I will do the traditional trip to the pub on an English cold bank holiday Monday for some BH madness!

Love to hear from anyone who has just been and what they thought of Sauze? We'd deffo go again. Met tons of people and made some good friends in the process who I am sure we will meet up with in Blighty very soon.

Happy Easter Monday everyone.

Hi

Yes, been twice, similarly fun experiences, apart from never queued once anywhere in the resort, and last time I went (Feb 24th) there was only just about enough snow to ski on.

Ascietta Bar on the square is lovely this time of year, outside tables and chairs. We tended to use Ghost Bar and Paddys more than anywhere, and yes Paddys is the smiliest bar in the world!

Glad you enjoyed it, can I have one of those Ipod things please?????

hi,

I just registered tonight! I did try ages ago but failed miserably. Tried again when i read your message. Myself and a girlfriend went to Italy in January to Gressoney, Champoluc and Alagna. Also aged 41. Had an absolute ball. Really fantastic time. Stayed in a Mountain Top Refuge one night! Twas fantastic. Went to Westendorf over week leading up to Easter and the 4 days in Italy had reallyimproved us. We showed up the husbands and kids. BIGTIME!!
Thats it. Nothing else to report. Just felt a kindred spirit when i read the message
