I will be heading to Italy this April and plan on staying in Claviere for a few days. Can anyone suggest the best way to get passes and rentals in that area? I would like to ski for two to three days.
thanks

I was in Claviere a few years ago and there was great snow, although I don't know what April will be like. There are a number of ski rental shops in the village so there should be no problem there and the prices were reasonable too.
As for the ski pass, I can't remember if it was part of the Milky Way pass which includes Sesitere. However as I recall on the local pass you could pop over the border to France to Montegenvre. In fact the 2 resorts are connected. You can take a lift from Claviere up to one of the reds, then down a forest road and you are in Montegenvre. It is definitely worth spending a day if not 2 there.
To get back you have to take a lift to one of the highest points and come back over the mountain... but if you are a beginner then the return run is not recommended.
I hope you get the snow.
BTW, There is a great little pizza bar/shop in Claviere where you can get hot slices of pizza.

Claviere is really struggling with the weather, as the whole of the Milky Way is. I came back from Sauze yesterday, and Sestriere was offering the best skiing conditions, but the hot sun was putting a stop to that. If they dont get snow this week, they are talking of shutting much of the area.
The lift pass is 175 euros, which isnt great under the current exchange rate.
If you go and find the conditions good, make sure you spend time in MontG as mentioned above, but also take the time to go over to cruise around Sauze and spend at least 1 full day at Sestriere, which offers the best slopes and terrain in the region by some way.
As for ski hire, ski set online offer 20% off. I paid 52 euros for intermediate skis, boots and poles for my son last week, which I think is pretty good.
