Hi,
The only week of the year I can go skiing is 12th - 19th April. We were thinking Val Thorens as it is high and more snowsure with easier access to the train we will be arriving on.
Has any one been here at this time of year? Is it a nice resort?
Also, we would like to find a catered chalet but direct to owners rather than tour company, or failing that a small friendly hotel...
does anyone know of any?!!
cheers

You shouldn't have any probs. Snow gteed & weather usually great. Have been around this time before. Loads of runs & lifts - some a bit dated but still shifts loads of people. Little or no queues. Bit bleak as well above tree line and no real character but its the snow you go for! some hotels reduce down to B&B only at this time of year but if you scan the Office of Tourism site, you should get something decent.

Went to Val T at Christmas - stayed at the Hotel Val Thorens (at the top of the drag lift). Would defo recommend the hotel - very friendly, great customer service - and a nice sauna and jacuzzi for the end of a hard day on the slopes!

We went there in 2005 over the Easter holiday.
Conditions in VT were really good, whereas it was slushy at resort level in all the Courchevels.
We actually had a huge fall as we left (the resort was closing the following weekend).
Overall, I'd say you're as likely to get decent snow there as anywhere in mid April.
If you're interested I posted some pictures (of BEFORE it snowed) at http://www.thesaxbys.co.uk/ski3.htm
Scroll down a bit :)
Cheers.
