Selecting Skis and Selecting Wife/husband : The Process

In another post Salski mentioned that selecting skis and selecting husbanb/wife has some related parameters.

We all know that the high divorce rate in our modern societies is causing many problems, both social and financial!Is it possible that we can learn from how we select skis and apply this process to "humans"!

Think about it selecting a husband/wife often is emotive,purely visceral,superficial (of course I want you to react), sexual?

Selecting skis of course is not! Or is it! Just read the marketing literature on the powerful, fast, clean skis!

Here is your challenge!
Think about it, how did you select your mate? What techniques used ? What benchmarks did you have? Then relate to skis you selected?

Here are the most comment "criteria" most people use ( you determine if it is for skis or wife/husband)

1. Expert skier uses it
2. Ski instructor used it
3. Great visual graphics
4. Great side-cut ( with 117-65-100 measurements)
5. Very stable in rough spots
6. Does not chatter when stressed
8. Does not "break up" after two year use
9. Takes a "wide" footprint
10.Takes you to higher levels of passion
11.Light to carry
13.Has many performance characteristics
14.Recommend by a product specialist
15.Tried it on vacation ( several times)
16.Can apply wax esily
17.Holds to terrain, does not deviate
18.Can be repaired easily
19.Adapts to all sorts of conditions
20.You dream of it


Help me find "other" criteria and also the processes of selection you used to get skis/wife husband!

:lol: Just don't get the cheap deal from eBay to save a bit of extra money.

Funny. I just commented on the other one - then I see this one! Right on, Pavel! All of us would reach wise decisions if we ask the proper questions. Well, maybe not ALL of us! ;) Some foolish people will still be buying Rossi Mutix for greens! Haha!

Having made your selection here are some important issues to ensure long lasting enjoyment:

1. After a full service allow to lie horizontal until cooled down. This avoids nasty drips
2. When carrying home at the end of the day keep the tips pointing down otherwise they can flail about and catch someone in the eye.
3. Remain alert during usage for erratic / unusual manoeuvres as pre-release can be unsightly and spoil the moment.
4. Never just throw then down in the snow and stamp on them. Lay them down gently and then enter only after checking your boots for snow. This helps avoid the issues of point 3.

But you make it too complicated...

When young and inexperienced you select a ski with a narrow waist and a nice side-cut, that's easy to, er, "ride". And don't set the bindings too tight as you want a clean release with no injury if things get bumpy and you need to go your separate ways.

When more mature, you'll find a ski to work with you in perfect harmony. That takes all that the mountain has to throw at you, stays with you and brings you home with a huge smile after every run. 8)

Putting aside all the cues and "double entente" my skis and wife are perhaps the two aspects that have made my life so great!
Perhaps I am a wee bit extreme but selecting a ski,,is as serious as selecting a wife!
Think about it!

May I ask a question?
Do you wipe yours after skiing?
Do you bind it with that famous velcro strap?
Do you do a final swipe with a nylon brush, just to get that structure?
Do you pre-heat before laying the wax?
Some prefer taking it out after serious long "preparation! Do you?
Do you favor the left or right,,,ski

So may questions,,,,so few time!
