Hi, first visit to Andorra in 2 weeks time and a couple of queries I need help with. We are looking at hiring a van at Gerona airport (8 in party) and driving to Arinsal instead of coach transfer. We are used to driving abroad but would like to know what to expect and how long it is likely to take. Map source quotes about 3.5 hours? Are snow chains advisable? Any problems crossing the border?
Can you advise if Andorran sim cards are available on pay as you go locally.
Is it compulsory to wear helmets in snow board park?
Also is Recco recognised in Arinsal?
Thanks in advance

I can only answer one of your questions - snow chains are essential.

Arcalis, Pas de la casa, SoldeuEl Tarter and the Andorra helicopter base (bombers) all have Recco. However, it's entirely inadequate as a safety device if you're intending to ski off piste and you need to carry proper material and know how to use it.

The timing is about right, the road can be a bit bleak, snowchains definitely.

They border guards will let you in :D but sometimes want to search cars leaving Andorra, and re-entering Spain. Andorra is a tax-free country, and not in the EU.
