Hello

I have just found out I am pregnant - which I am delighted about. I am due to go to Chamonix on 6th January for a week's skiing. I'll be 8/9 weeks pregnant then.

Of course different people have different views about whether or not it is too risky to ski when pregnant. I really want to go but I don't want to be reckless.

My question is, have any other women been skiing when pregnant, and how was it for you? Do you have any tips you could share with me?

Thanks.

Is there a doctor in the house :?:

Have you tried googling 'skiing whist pregnant' brings up some interesting threads. The general consensus seems to be it's the individuals choice, no particular medical science to say either way. One thing to bear in mind though is however competent a skier you may be there are plenty of numptys on the slopes that could take you out, is it worth it :?: Probably not, I say go, enjoy the holiday, the mountain air and gentle exercise can only be good for both of you, oh and congratulations :!:
I would have got away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids!

No expert, (being a guy, ye ken), but should you be flying at all in the first 3 months? Understand when this is the most vulnerable time.

During one season, a fellow instructor skied from 4 to 7 months. in the latter stages, we arranged for someone to ski behind her, if she had a fall, she wouldn't have been able to get up.....

Hi

I would check with your Doctor / Midwife to see if they think it would be safe for you to do so. My personnel opinion is that it might be risky as you will be less than three months gone. I did go skiing when I was Five months pregnant as my Doctor said it would be ok as long as I was careful. In the end I only managed to ski twice the whole time I was their as it was just too tiring carrying the extra weight. I still had a great holiday though dispite not skiing.

A member of our skiing group was pregnant a few years ago. I'm not sure how far gone she was or anything but she never had much of a bump. She actualy felt she had more balance while she was pregnant that when she wasn't! Infact she's a bit concerned that when she skis next year, for the first time since, that she might be rubbish at it now!
