I got myself a pair of used Salomon 1080s which I believe are the 2004 model as they are greenish yellow which doesn't match any of the later models. The man at the store sold them to me as all mountain skis of very good quality, good for the glades and powder etc. but looking around the reviews all I can find is that they are park skis of mediocre quality whose core breaks down over time. I still have time to refuse them as they are due to tune them tomorrow morning and I am due to pick them up at mid-day, I have already payed but I should be able to get it all back. Would you all recommend this? Or is the internet wrong and the salesman was right?
Another point is that the skis cost me $299 plus $25 for a tune and then tax and I am finding similar 1080s online (admittedly without bindings) for $279 not used. Are they ripping me off?

They seem quite expensive for a used ski. I would agree with you that the 1080 is a park ski. They may be fine in powder, but there is no way I would call them an all mountain ski. I tried a new 1080 Thruster on indoor snow and they were lacking in edge stiffness.

OMG call it off, that's too much to pay for almost a 4 year old ski :!: Have a look at this link for review on the 1080(2004), also look at the comments at the bottom by actual users regarding weak base / edges etc. Looks like they are a park ski that can be used for carving with limited success.

I would have got away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids!

For a ski that old, I wouldn't pay it! Figure out exactly what you want from a ski, give us a budget, post it on here and no doubt someone will take a look for you!
