and the football coach in me says dont even think about it. Relieving pain is one thing, but preventing an injury healing and probably making it worse is no good in the long term.
As much as I would want to ski as well, I think if your body is not up to it, and will recover in time, you are best missing out on 1 trip for the benefit of the long term, as oppose to having a bit of fun on 1 trip and finding out that you have damaged the ligaments or other parts of your body even more and wont be able to ski again to the same degree or at all.
Be sensible about this.

.... If it is your ball - sure you can..... Sometimes it is a wise move to do just that ... this is such an example :!:
But caron-a doesn't think so .... I hope she has a great trip  ... and these are my last words on the subject

I had a similar problem after a bad accident, and I can understand that it can be depressing. But you can still have a good holiday without compromising your health if you treat it as a regular break, sans skiing. If your children can be taken out by other people in the group, or attend their group lessons, they can still have a good time, and you can still relax. In retrospect, missing one of many ski holidays won't be significant, whereas permanently damaging your knees will affect you forever.

Tough luck on the knees -I hope you make a full and quick recovery and are bounding down the slopes next year. Remember Hermann Maier was told there was a good chance he would never walk again after a motorbike accident - two years later, he was back skiing at the highest level!
Glad to hear you are going - I am sure you will have a great time even though there will be moments when it is hard looking out at the mountains but not getting out there. Not skiing will give you the opportunity to relax - there is a lovely new swimming pool in Tignes Le Lac that you might want to visit a few times, perhaps enjoy a few massages. Maybe visit the ice cave up on the Grande Motte. I liked the earlier idea of your friends setting silly tasks to be achieved during the day - sounds like fun.
Above all, not skiing yourself will let you give your kids lots of attention.
Enjoy (as best you can!)

there are so many things I would like to say but won't!
I would just like to clear up one thing though. unfortunately skiing is out of the question. not so much because of the cartilage and acl but because of the bones. if i were to hit a bump or have a fall my bones would snap apparently. not good! this coming from the specialist that, prior to seeing the scans, said i could ski.
Mike from NS if you don't mind I'd like to say here and now that AJ Adele and I are in total agreement I'm afraid. and I promise I'll make every effort to make sure my unruly children are kept in check. in fact, I'll keep them off the slopes with me and then there's no danger at all
i've got lots of advice to take, a helicopter ride sounds wonderful, challenges, pool, massages, ice cave. there's also a day in val to be had, lunch up in the 3 mountain restaurants in espace killy. all sounds like a holiday to me :D (albeit more expensive than if i was actually skiing!) thanks everyone
