When did you start skiing

Coming from a non-skiing family, a family friend invited me away for a week of skiing at Perisher, a resort in New South Wales, Australia.

I was 15 and the first day out I loved it, I was snow ploughing with a vengeance and skied until they kicked me off the T-bar at closing time.

Right then I decided that this was something I needed to continue. I haven't missed a Southern hemisphere winter since, and have managed quite a few Northern winters as well.

Costly, but worth every cent and still it must continue!

Last year, at the age of 47.
All those wasted years!

I already replied this thread some time ago, but I must say my kids started skiing at 4. When my son was 2 I almost took him with me. Then I thought may be 2 is just too early.. :)

1971 & 72 with the school to Austria. Then a long long gap until we went to De Kempervennen Centre Parcs. They have an indoor ski centre there. That was it, I was back in love with skiing and the kids were hooked. 2 years of that and the real stuff was calling too loudly. This year will be the 6th year back.

Hubby and I learnt to ski in Niederau in January 2006 - I was 34 and hubby was 37. Oh how we wish we'd gone years ago. The schools we went to didn't do skiing holidays and our parents are definately not the winter holiday types! The other half was never really interested in skiing but I had always wanted to have a go. Two people were talking one day in work about their ski hols I just decided there and then to book a ski hol. It was a case of "Oh well, if we go and don't like it, at least we can say we've tried skiing". Both of us are now totally hooked and have been back to Niederau in 2007 and 2008 but hopefully will get a second holiday in March as well.

Age 50 @ Tignes two years ago 1st lesson in the kiddies ski area did I get some looks, progress since then what have I missed all these years, time to make up must go too much skiing to catch up on man, you all have good snow and ski well.

Our high school had a ski club and we went every Wednesday after school to Hillend.

2 yrs ago at the tender age of 38 - been 3 times and about to go on my 4th - it is a love it or hate it holiday - I Love it and would rather ski anyday than laze about by a pool the scenery the food the vin chaud the good company all make for a fab holiday My daughter learnt to ski last yr age 6 and is allready better than us and is very excited as we are off to les arc next sunday yipeee!!!! :)
