On our recent holiday to Tignes I found the prices varied very much from restaurant to restaurant, but were generally higher in the mountain restaurants as compared to down in the villages.

Up the mountain in the Tete de Solaise restaurant above Val d'Isere:
One large hot chocolate = 6.00 euros
One small coffee = 2.80 euros

Down in Tignes Lavachet in Le Brassero restaurant:
25cl Perrier = 3.00 euros
One hot chocolate = 3.00 euros

Up on the Grande Motte Tignes, from the outside bar of the Panoramic restaurant:
Small coffee = 2.50 euros
Tea = 3.50 euros
Hot chocolate = 4.00 euros

Us too...we stayed in the Skiworld Lodge in VDI, beer in the bar was 5 euros, wine 3.5 euros, Bombay Sapphire & Tonic 4 euros...but didn't bother posting these as only in our Lodge!!
Up there for thinking, down there for skiing...

Skiing across border most days, I can report that Italian mountain restaurants are about 1/3 cheaper than the French ones in Montgenevre. They also have more atmosphere.

Beers in resort €2.50 for a demi
Wine is cheap. Small glass €2.50
Hot chocolates vary but €2.50 - €3.
Coke same as hot chocolate I think.

Here follows a rant:

Got royally peed-off at Ciao Pais in Sauze d'Oulx 2 days ago. When I went to pay the bill, the lady told me that they had to charge for tap water because they had to filter and purify it themselves and weren't, by law, allowed provide tap water in Italy. Pull the other one! That trick was being used La Datcha in Val D'Isere 20 years ago when I worked there. Not only that but she didn't offer me the standard ski guide discount. It's a shame because it's lovely restaurant, probably the best on Sauze / Sestriere slopes, but they won't be seeing my groups there. I managed to get the water knocked off the bill, but when I got home I realised there was a cover charge of €2 per person on the bill !!

That sounds ominous. What, with the recently introduced tourist tax and all. Is this all to do with the parlous state of the Italian economy and 'Johnny Tourist' being asked to foot a bit more of the bill?

This is the Italians way of getting some extra spondies.
Volfs right, that's one of the best eateries but that kind of penny pinching is irritating.
Expect more of it in Italy as maybe they themselves realise they're cheaper than most of the alps, and their country is in the deep stuff already, and I'm not talking fresh powder either.
