Hi
I am creating(or at least trying to)a snowboarding holiday as a surprise Christmas present for my boyfrend. He has been snowboarding lloads of tmes, and my experience is limited to the ndoor snow domes, so I'm a bit lost! I have booked flights to Geneva leaving on 18th Feb 2008 and returning on 21st Feb (had to be school hols as I'm a teacher!)I've lookad at Les Houches(anyone know if this resort would suit our mixed abilities?) and Courmayeur, but not really sure! I'm wantingto stay in a nice resort about 1hour-1 and a half hours from Geneva, with good access to both mountains and town, but as we are going for less than a week in school holidays, I'm finding it erally hard. I obviously want accomodation to be of a nice quality, as it's for a present, but need it to be reasonably priced(I don't ask for much, do I?!)
Hope someone can help!

Hi Mel,

If you want a resort that will suit you both I suggest Avoiraz/Morzine.They are linked and have a good variety of slopes and its only just over an hour drive from Geneva.I was there a couple of times with a mixed ability group and we really enjoyed it.

Gar. :)
When in doubt?....Flat out.

Hi Mel,

I forgot to say,it will be really busy that time of year but my wife is a teacher too so I understand your time problem.
By the way try to avoid Chamonix, its a great town but not so good for mixed ability groups as most of the different mountains are not linked by the lifts.

Hi!
Try Villars or Les Diableret in the Vaud region it is only over one and a half hours away from Geneva. It is a good place for mixed ability. look up www.villars.ch it has loads of info and if you ring the tourist board they are really helpful. When we stayed there we used Interhome but i think it is cheaper to go through the tourist board this is what i have done for next january in Engelberg(CH). As we got terrible accomodation in Tignes this year through Interhome and they did not care. The Office Interhome office in Villars are lovely and you often get discounts on ski hire and passes etc. Also get your car hire through cartrawler.co.uk I have just got a deal for a large family car with sixt on the swiss side for 349ch.

I forgot to say for Villars there is lots of accomodation to rent in the village and a train that takes you up to the slopes runs all the time. It is a nice relaxing scenic journey. You can even get a train form Geneva airport to Villars you may need to change. However if you contact the Swiss tourist board in london you can purchase a special ticket for tourists that gives you a return train journey to your destination from your point of entry. It is about £50, and you don;t need a car if you are staying in Villars. If you book now you should get a good deal.

That's probably correct, the commission that Interhome take is eye-watering, they take commission for the company itself and then again at the local franchise level. As owners of apartments we decided using Interhome wasn't economic, either you have to charge so much that you're struggling for rentals or you charge a rate that you're not making anything.

Hi Mel,
I would suggest Morzine/Avoriaz too. We`ve been going there at feb half term for years. Some of the lifts can get busy at peak times but it`s such a huge ski area with loads of off piste you can find less busy areas. Lovely old french village in Morzine lots bars restaurents and massive boarder park at Avoriaz. Look on rudechalets.co.uk web site, they are mad boarders and may be able to help in feb.Stayed with them last year in morzine and accomodation was great.
