I'm off there on friday, anybody replying as to the conditions, last time I went to Saux when it was described as 'hard packed' translate to boiler plate ice, very dangerous, half the lifts running and brown pistes after 2pm. Any info ta

8) Hi I,ve been in Saux three days. Well its not bad but could be better! Weather is sun and clear blue skies so fabulous but no snow is forcast for the next few days. Conditions are iffy but not terrible. High up its still good with some great skiing but there are lots of hard packed and worn areas lower down and ice as well. There are signs around saying ,ski with caution, hard packed snow, you can say that again. Several pistes are closed, Sestrere is very hard packed. If you are booked for next week you might be okay but if you are booked for 2 weeks time I would change to somewhere else, I did this once when I was booked in Morzine and it was green so I changed to Val Thorens best thing I ever did. Pity cos I don,t want to slag off the area, the people are fantastic, food and drink are excellent and very reasonable especially Paddy McGinty.s bar, (you can still ski down to near there, if it would just do a good dump of snow in the next week it would be fantastic.

Well I'm back from Saux now, great week fantastic weather, blue sky and sun all week and generally good skiing. BUT it is detiorating and could do with a snowfall. Pistes from Sportina are worn and stoney but Sansicario was brilliant, wide open sunny pistes a bit skitty in places and you do have to concentrate but great fun. But as I said at the end of the day its not getting any better. They have snowmaking but its not ideal but if it snows a bit it will be brilliant. PS I would ignore the 'more information' on the Ski Club Great Britain' site for Saux that says "fast skiing on hard pistes" I don't know who writes this rubbish but the last thing you want to be doing on these pistes is to ski fast, you need to ski in control or you'll end up with a broken leg or ankle/knee! Cheers heres to some snow.

Just got back from an excellent week skiing. I must say the ski instructors were excellent - much older than I would have thought but very good. I was taught by the infamouis Giovanni - he was fond of jabbing people with his pole if you got it wrong!

 Think that's Ski Club talk for "boiler-plate snow - no chance of stopping"... of course, you can be sure they tell it like it is, with never a temptation to "keep the resort happy or they won't pay for the Rep"...

I think they have a few stock phrases, I skied with them a few times in Avoriaz and they were wonderful helpful people but you're right I think they have to toe the party line when it comes to describing the conditions. It will be interesting to see the comments tonight (Monday) about 7.00pm
