Les Deux Alpes - 19th December

Travelling out to l2a next week, worried about the snow conditions. I'm an inexperienced skier (previously only one week just getting confident on greens and managing easier blues), any advice on conditions, runs etc? Thanks.

Don't sweat; as an "early" skier you really don't need metres of snow.

Les Deux Alpes, as you may know, is often referred to as an "upside-down" resort as many of the beginner runs are high up the mountain (particularly the runs up on "Cretes" and the blues on the glacier). You may have to take the gondola back down to the town at the end of the day but you should have plenty to keep you occupied.

The other end of the weather spectrum for late December is perishing cold and bucketing snow... which is actually no fun at all for beginners/early skiers.

they have opened a new blue run back from the top of les diables gondola which should make it easier

I'm with Tony on this one. Quite enjoy the grimmer conditions. Mayjo - head up to the glacier for a couple of nice long easy blues. They are real confidence builders. It is usually cold up there, though, so wrap up warm. Once you get a bit of confidence, head to the Signal blue run which is just below the glacier. This is quite a bit steeper, but is lovely and wide. The blues down immediately from the glacier are OK but can get a bit busy. The area immediately above the town is called Les Cretes and would also be v good for you - not open yet though due to poor snow. If the green back to the resort (Desmoisselles??) is open, do not take it - it is horrid - v narrow and v busy. I'd unload down. I have heard reports that the blue back to resort is not as steep as it seems, so if it's open, why not try that one - just not at the end of the day when it will be rammed!
