Dave,

I must confess, I did hesitate sharing my baby wipes technique with all of you!

I have had several comments about it, but once you do it ( yes it takes some courage) your feet will never be like Jan's!!!

I must now confess that I do take the travel baby wipe box and place all sorts of ski stickers on it! So unless you are a "new mother" you have no idea what they are!

I promise to get away from the wax fumes for a while Dave!

I still have those damm fish images!

Cheers.

I saw an ad for Salamon ski socks. Do these really make a difference over normal socks, especially the shin protection?

Hey, and welcome.

I have skiid in tube socks and I have skiid in racing socks. There is a slight difference for sure, but I never would pay top dollar for a pair of socks. I bought a pair in TK Maxx for £9 that would normally retail at £35 - thats stupid, but when you can have them cheap, you might as well have the good ones.

To be perfectly honest, its far more important to have a well fitted pair of boots, but the type of socks you wear will add slightly to your comfort, and may even help with the cheesy smell!!!!!

Admin wrote:Pavel... earlier today it was baby-wipes between your toes and now you've come over all fishy!

Are you sure you're not spending too much time in your ski workshop... inhaling all those wax fumes?

I think you need a snow-fix!

I agree, Pavel you are the ONLY person I know who can see the connection between fish and skiing :!: Excellent reading as always.
I would have got away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids!

10. When driving up to the resort with no chains and summer tyres, expect alot of fishtailing!

Hooray. I hope you can sleep soundly tonight.

By the way it was business college. I can now afford to ski but still have no idea about gravity, the physics of snow, etc......but then who cares. If it's sunny and there's fresh snow then I'm happy.

let me add

11. Have you seen skier with Episodic ataxia (an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by sporadic bouts of ataxia (severe discoordination) with or without myokymia (continuous muscle movement). Ataxia can be provoked by stress, startle, or heavy exertion such as exercise. ) on the slope. Its like a fish on a dry bank.
I know it's not funny but ive seen it and was the one who stop him going further down. But well THERE IS A GOOD AND BAD DAYS SKIING.

Thank you,SERJOE and Mickey THE FISH!

Brilliant comments.

Dam I missed the fish tailing. since I often see this in the Rockies or in Utah!

SERJOE. Bravo. I love this site because of skiers like you! Such divergent thinking and varied cultures ( and education)!

Here is a true fish related story!

If you read about the World Cup skier and their equipment , they will do anything to get that .003 sec less!

Spyder ski comapny has been producing ski suits that are based on research fish scales and how fish ( specifically sharks) can swim so fast with little "water resistance"!

What was discovered in fish studies is that shark ski creates tiny "vortexes" which allow air to come between water and skin! This turbulance allows a more efficient water flow!

Modern ski suits are amazing technological products since they replicate the shark skin, thus creating those vortexes!

So you see Mickey soon very soon when you will be member of the national ski team they will know why you are the FISH!
Because you are faster than all of us!

If ever you have a chance..touch one of those suits!!!!! Just like a fish!!!!!

Hello All,
Australian on my way to Cortina and Campitello in Feb 2008, and new to the Ski Forum.

I have skied for 25 years. 15 of those in Thin Stocking type material, Had no problems. 10 in a Speciality Ski Sock, Found these to be more comfortable.

NB. Thicks socks make you sweat, sweat freezes, feet go cold. Thin socks offer very little by way of skin protection and warmth.
i suggest you experiment and see what works for you.
Carry different sock in a back pack, and change them during breaks. ( either way dry feet are warm feet ).
Hope everyone is well ??? Gumby
ps. never buy instant foot warmers
