My old rear-entry salomon boots have disintegrated and I am looking for a new pair of boots. I ski just a few times a year but have been skiing for over 30 years. Not an expert but I prefer off-piste and moguls to the piste and can get down pretty much anything. Was sold a pair of Salomon X-Pro 90s but then saw these are aimed an intermediates. Then I saw that a softer flex may be better for off-piste and moguls. Now I am confused. I don't want to spend a fortune given how little I ski but would like something that would help me on the fun stuff. I still have old salomon skis but will change next year probably. Any recommendations on boots most welcome, particularly on flex (relative to the X-Pro 90s)

I would not worry too much about boot flex. Unless you are super heavy or aggressive skier 90 will be fine. Not going to be best boot for super carving but still much better than a low touring boot which most people are using to access real offpiste.

Most good 110/120/130 flex boots offer reduced stiffness adjustments by removing a screw, or two. Always easier to reduce stiffness, than increase it. boot fitters can cut plastic to reduce stiffness further. Manufacturers, and even models from the same manufacturer, will vary considerably. Depends whether the boots are pseudo stiff, or actually stiff. It's hard to tell what's what, especially at retail shop temperatures.
because I'm so inclined .....
