Got new pair of salopettes as Xmas prezzie. Perfect fit everywhere except legs are far too long - cannot exchange as they were bought abroad several months ago. To shorten legs wifey reckons zip out, Velcro off, studs on inside gaiters off, chop down leg, etc and refix everything and "there's no way I'm attempting that." Does anyone know of a good alteration place in the Surrey/Hants/Berks/West London area?

Can't name specific places as I'm in the north but from previous experience most independent ski gear retailers will recommend someone to do alterations as its quite a common problem. My wife always has to have her ski pants shortened and they do a great job for about twenty quid.
Good luck

Take them back and exchange them.

Had the same [problem a couple of years ago. Took them into my local dry cleaner/alterations man in Epsom Surrey. They shortened the outside salopette legs and left the inside (the inner shell the same length) as the inner shell usually contains an elasticated end which grips to your ski boot and the outside lining will look perfect. As another J2 suggested a professional alterations person should do the job for around £20.

I also have the same problem with length. While I was looking in Snow and Rock (Port Solent) they said they had someone that did alterations for them. I guess its worth asking any shop that sells ski wear if they can recommend anyone.

Could you just cut some out of the middle? A seam around the centre or even two thirds down would look too bad.

I had a one-piece ski suit (back when they were all the rage!) taken in by the person who did the alterations/repairs at a local dry cleaners. She told me she did quite a lot of similar work on ski clobber (I bet, by the way, you have ski trousers rather than 'salopettes' which are like dungarees with a bib etc!!)
