October Half Term Skiing

For what you'd spend doing a cheeky few days at half term, put the money towards either a bargain week somewhere during the main season, or spend more on your main ski holiday.

Hi, I'm thinking about a cheeky few days skiing at half term. Has anybody any experience/advice? I understand there are a number of glaciers open at this time. Advice on travel, accommodation just as welcome as the skiing. Thx :D

I think that there are several resorts available, such as Hintertux, Stubai, L2A, Tignes. I get the impression from other folks that the skiing can be rather limited. Some resorts get busy with race squad training - I know that L2A has a bit of a reputation for that. And it'll be a DIY trip, cos I am not aware of any TOs that run half term trips. Check out Easiski's snow blog for comments on L2A October skiing in years gone by.

Ally G has been a few times in October, she usually goes to Tignes, she should be able to help.

I know a couple of people who have been out to Tignes. They have mixed views, but bottom line is there was very little skiing available so if you like to ski the same run all day every day, go for it. Also you are in the lap of the gods with the weather, although theres sure to be SOME snow around in October high up on a glacier.
Experience tells me if you must go in October, that Hintertux is probably your best bet.

I'm fairly relaxed about how much is open. Better than up and down Exscape 30 odd times. Couple of hours in the morning, long lunch, hour in the afternoon will do it.
