Greeting's :) Im new to the forum and skiing and id like to know (because going skiing soon and cannot wait) will i need to use orthotic insoles? I say this because im a runner and runners always need supportive insoles when running to prevent injury and was wondering if this was the same case as for skiing too? Thank you

I have them as my arches were proved to be collapsing when I was measured up for my boots. However, that assumes that you will own your own pair. If you are renting I'm not sure if you'll be able to slot in generic insoles. Someone else might know.

Bedrock Barney is right. You cut the insole to the boot, I think. Non skiing insoles wouldn't work, I don't think.

I have flat feet and when i got my ski boots I bought a proper pair of orthotics that were made especially for me...I had to stand on some equipment and they were set to my feet.....on one ski trip my bag was picked up by some other s-d who did not return them until the next week...I had to hire a pair of boots and even though I tried many I was in agony throughout that week ...I even thought about BOARDING ...If you need them or are even thinking about them...get them ..there's nothing worse than a pair of painful boots...and they last for years as you are not flexing them...but you don't need them as a matter of course as there is no pressure put on the feet in the same way as running ...take the advice of a boot fitter before you go

After running over 20,000 miles, my arches were in such poor condition, that I needed to start using purpose made orthotics. I use them in my ski boots. If you need to use them, it can be very painful, when you leave them out.

You would benefit from using custom insoles, http://www.profeet.co.uk/sports/ski-boots/custom-ski-insoles but most beginners / intermediates don't use them. The ones used for skiing are designed to support the whole foot and are trimmed to precisely match the shape of the inner boot after molding so that they can't move about. The ones used by runners only support part of the foot and will probably be too wide to fit in a well fitting ski boot. If I were you I would take them anyway as rental boots are usually pretty wide and voluminous. There are also off the shelf footbeds which are an improvement on the ones that come with the boots, the green ones from Superfeet are often used by skiers.
