A little fun with my GPS and a GoPro camera

Mogul Man posted Apr-2013

A friend and I collected some GPS tracking data and videos when we were out in Utah earlier this year. I thought it would be fun to synchronize them together in an interactive virtual globe as a little side project. The result ended up being pretty cool, so I figured I'd share it. Hope you guys like it.

It's still a little rough around the edges so my apologies for any bugs/crashes you might find.
It also only runs in Google Chrome browser at the moment.

Never knew anything like this could be done. It is interesting to see the cam view and tracking together but if its possible i think it would be better to see the cam view as the full screen and the tracking as the small screen. i can see possibilities for the tracking view to be part of a holiday video but only so its on screen for a few seconds to show the actual run which that part of the video is about.
Another use i could see this being of great value would be for a library of these clips for a ski area showing off piste routes. would be great for someone new to the area to be able to review the clips knowing what is a good route and that it is within their ability level and where they need to be to ski that route.
Did you use a contour to film this?

Thanks. That's some really good feedback. I'll probably play with some of those ideas. We used a GoPro hero3 for the videos. Unfortunately we didn't have the camera aimed very well. When I stabilized the videos the edges got cropped a little. I would have liked to have the camera pointing up a little bit more. Guess that's for next season.
