:)We have just had an excellent week in Lofer, Austria. It was a resort we had travelled through many times en route to other resorts, but our friends have bought an apartment in nearby Grubhof, so the opportunity to ski for a week was taken. The piste map of the area is good and the nice part for families is that the ski school and Kinder Club are all in the middle, so any beginners/children are easy to access. There are plenty of mountain restaurants, they all serve great food and have fab views - and plenty of seating and deckchairs. The ski school looked very good but I have to say the resort was very quiet - no lift queues, no waiting, no hassle - so really I should not be sharing this secret with you! The resort would not suit those who want to ski miles and miles or really challenge themselves but for a lovely week in a nice village, and stunning scenery, it ticked a lot of boxes for us. We also took the local bus via St Johann to Kitzbhuel for a look around (nice medieaval town, but glad we were not staying there) and you can also get the bus in the other direction to Zell Am See, or Salzburg easily for the day. Very good Tourist Information and free car park. As I said it will not suit everyone, but if you want somewhere within 30-40 mins of Salzburg Airport and some lovely skiing, then it is worth a look. No British tour ops go there, the British Ski Team were based there for many years, and it is a nice mix of nationalities, including many Scandinavians. Definitely suited us so will be back!!
Rather a bad day on the slopes than a good day in the office!
