Hi All

Haven't been on here in a while. Have been busy moving countries and thought we'd be unable to afford a trip this year. Didn't want to get jealous reading all your reports!

anyway - have scraped together the pennies but we are unable to go until 6th April. I have been looking at Kaprun (for height) and have found an apartment for a reasonable amount but it is in Maria Alm so a 30 minute trip every day. I think it is a different ski pass as well. Does anyone have any suggestions for accommodation in the area and could also tell me what it is like to ski the Kaprun glacier?

Any info appreciated and its good to be back on the site!!!

Hi we have just come back from leogang only a 20min drive to kaprun. We had a blast. I have stayed at the same place 3 trips running now but have visited 6 times in last 6 years. Love it. The place we stay is feruenhaus sonnrain. If you look at the thread about Austrian tourist tax Nadia (owner) has posted there. We have a great time there and Nadia and Paul are from Doncaster and are great. I couldn't brag them up enough to be honest. It's reasonable, very clean, well run and great facilities. Also leogang is north facing so chances are you would still have skiing there at that time so u wouldn't have to go to kaprun every day. If you got the area pass €12 more than the local that covers you for kaprun also and even as far as kitzbuel so you would have a choice. Hope this helps. If you need any more help just post a reply. ;)

Went to Kaprun in March 2 years ago. It was great. While the lower slopes in Zell am Zee were really suffering, Kaprun still had wonderful snow  . Decent selection of runs though it might become a little boring after more than a couple of day  . There were two blacks off to the right that were lovely  . If you are up to it, there a few interesting itineries around that would test most skiers  .

A couple of downsides however - lots of drags because it is a moving glacier
Also, you have to take a gondola to the valley.

Thanks for the info guys!!! I was wondering about having to buy 2 different lift tickets as well so thanks for clearing that up for me. Now to see if I can get flights out of Muscat :)

 Thanks Ade - PS its snowing again - spring has gone to bed for a while. The Super Salzburg Lift pass will cover you for 22 resorts throughout Salzburgerland and also Kitzbuhel. You can ski the Kaprun Glacier too, so even if you stay locally you can travel it to Karin should you need to. Its true it takes a while to get up there in the mornings, and as you get into Spring conditions elsewhere it gets busy. However it is great for the odd day , but can be boring over a full holiday. As Ade has said to you Leogang slopes face North and keep hold of great conditions as long as possible. A coupel of years ago when easter was late we were the only resort in this area still open till 28th April ( other than the Glacier). Our lifts this year close on the 14th April.
